  1. Select your image with the Direct Selection tool.
  2. Go to the Window menu and select Image Trace. The pop-up menu will appear.
  3. Choose High Fidelity Photo from the Preset drop-down menu.
  4. Wait till the end of the image tracing process, and close the image trace menu.
  5. Go to the Object menu and select Expand.
  6. Click OK in the pop-up menu.
  7. Click anywhere outside your image.
  8. Click on the background you want to remove with the Direct Selection tool, and press Delete.

  1. Select the Pen tool from the left toolbar.
  2. Outline your object by clicking along its edges.
  3. Close the path by clicking on the first point.
  4. Choose the Selection Tool from the left-hand toolbar, and select both the outline you just created and your initial image by dragging over them.
  5. Make a right-click, and choose Make Clipping Mask.
